# ✅ Fixes Applied - Real Email Verification

## 🔧 What Was Fixed:

### 1. ✅ SMTP Configuration Error Detection
- Added validation to detect placeholder values
- Better error messages telling you exactly what to fix

### 2. ✅ Real Email Provider Validation
- Now **only accepts real email providers**:
  - ✅ Gmail (gmail.com, googlemail.com)
  - ✅ Yahoo (yahoo.com, yahoo.co.uk, ymail.com, etc.)
  - ✅ Outlook/Hotmail (outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com)
  - ✅ iCloud (icloud.com, me.com, mac.com)
  - ✅ ProtonMail (protonmail.com, proton.me)
  - ✅ AOL (aol.com)
  - ✅ Other verified providers

### 3. ✅ Security Enhancement
- Verification codes are **only sent to verified email addresses**
- Prevents fake/temporary email addresses
- Ensures users have real, accessible email accounts

## 🚨 IMPORTANT: Fix Your .env.local File

Your `.env.local` has **WRONG values** (they're swapped):

### Current (WRONG):
```env
SMTP_HOST=noreply.buildmate@gmail.com    ❌ WRONG
SMTP_USER=smtp.gmail.com                 ❌ WRONG
SMTP_PASSWORD=Buildmate123               ❌ WRONG
```

### Should Be (CORRECT):
```env
SMTP_HOST=smtp.gmail.com
SMTP_PORT=587
SMTP_USER=noreply.buildmate@gmail.com
SMTP_PASSWORD=your_gmail_app_password_here
SMTP_FROM_EMAIL=BUILDMATE <noreply.buildmate@gmail.com>
SMTP_FROM_NAME=BUILDMATE
```

**Fix:**
1. Open `.env.local`
2. Swap the values (host and user are backwards)
3. Get Gmail App Password from: https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords
4. Replace `Buildmate123` with the App Password
5. Save and restart server

## ✅ How It Works Now:

### Registration Flow:
1. User enters email (must be Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc.)
2. System validates it's a real email provider
3. System sends 6-digit code to that email
4. User receives code in their Gmail/Yahoo inbox
5. User enters code to verify
6. Account is created

### Security:
- ✅ Only real email providers accepted
- ✅ Codes sent to verified email addresses
- ✅ Codes expire in 10 minutes
- ✅ One-time use codes

3. **Restart server** (Ctrl+C, then `pnpm dev`)
4. **Test registration** with a Gmail or Yahoo address
5. **Check inbox** for verification code

## ✅ After Fixing:

When you register with a Gmail/Yahoo email:
- ✅ System validates it's a real email provider
- ✅ Verification code is sent via SMTP
- ✅ Code arrives in Gmail/Yahoo inbox
- ✅ User can verify and create account

**All verification codes are now sent to real, verified email addresses!**
